PERFORMANCE SIMULATION

Module

Green Building modeling and Simulation (Semester 2.1)

This subject sheds light on passive building design for cooling and natural ventilation of a building.

Project Brief

In this project, there was a group and individual segment. In the group segment, we were tasked to do a simulation study on a building. This included doing shadow analysis, solar analysis, ETTV calculations and CFD simulations on the building. For the individual segment, we were tasked in proposing strategies to aid in cooling and providing natural ventilation for the building. We used the skills learned in our lab sessions to aid us in doing this project.

Learning Experience

My ideas developed from looking from problems with the simulation study done in the group segment. This helped me narrow in the areas of the building that needed help. This initial simulation study of the building was crucial as it decreased the chance of me implementing a strategy that was not effective. The ideas I decided to implement for this project was horizontal louvres to provide shading, changing of windows to Low-E glass to reduce the impact of solar radiation, and made openings in the building to allow for windfllow through the building. From the completion of this project, I have become more confident in my skills to do the shadow analysis, solar analysis, ETTV calculations, and CFD simulations for a building.
